George Kingsley Zipf

George Kingsley Zipf (1902–1950), was an American linguist and philologist who studied statistical occurrences in different languages. George Kingsley Zipf popularized Zipf's Law of Word Frequency, an empirical law formulated using mathematical statistics and sought to explain it (Zipf 1935, 1949), though he did not claim to have originated it. Zipf's law states that given some corpus of natural language utterances, the frequency of any word is inversely proportional to its rank in the frequency table.
Popular Works of George Kingsley Zipf includes - Human Behavior and the Principle of Least Effort (1949); The Psycho-Biology of Language (1935).
